“[ The believers’ blessings ] Bless the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! He has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing that comes from heaven” (Ephesians 1:3, CEB).

Greetings!

As I write this, I am preparing to leave for my Ordinand Retreat, then team on the Women’s Walk to Emmaus, and then head off to Nags Head, NC for a week of vacation. Life has been extremely busy, joyful, and painful lately. We celebrated Holy Week and Easter Sunday and then we said goodbye to several important people in our lives. The Jacob’s family—Kim, Eric, Noah, Seth, and Donna Bowen, Kim’s mom. They have been a huge part of our Markham family for many years. We are heartbroken because of our love for them. We are thankful for the time we shared, and trust God will guide our future. They will be greatly missed.
The Monday after Easter, I received an early morning phone call that a beloved member of Marshall UMC had passed. Gary Houk was a beam of Sonshine every Sunday morning and anytime you would encounter him. We were all in shock and continue to process his homegoing. We celebrated his life on Sunday, April 28 after our morning worship services. Over 230 people were in attendance. Family, friends, the Excelsior-Henderson Motorcycle Club, Local 77 Union, our Marshall UMC family and others gathered to remember the incredible life Gary led throughout his 62 years of living. Boy, did he live! He loved the Lord and life which was evident in the testimonies, stories, and love poured out by all who came. Gary, we’re heartbroken, and you will be greatly missed!
We do not know from one moment to the next what life holds for us. However, we do know who loves us and carries us through all of life’s ups and downs. Jesus, we love you and we need you! You’re so faithful to us. I saw the evidence of Jesus in each of us as we came together throughout each of these events as we journeyed through Lent, Holy Week, Easter, new beginnings, and the resurrection and celebration of life. We are the tangible presence of Christ in this world. You revealed his presence through all of this. I want to thank you all for the love and generosity you showed to one another. Jesus is here and I see him in you!
May the peace of Christ fill you to overflowing. The blessing of his presence continually be upon you through the Holy Spirit giving you comfort as we journey forward.
